The officer responsible for the death of Eric Garner was fired by the NYPD last week and since then, the stats coming in are staggering to say the least. Arrests dropped 27% between Aug-19 and Aug 25, leaving us to wonder if more cops should be fired in order to solve the prevalent crime issues in NYC? Though not official, it has been whispered in closed circles that officers feel like they should be careful in light of the firing. The threat of losing their jobs has them treating every situation uniquely instead of the blanket reckless nature that the storied department is known for. If this sample size holds, and in response to the firing of Officer Daniel Pantaleo, officers knowing they’ll be accountable decide to treat people with respect in droves, other departments across the nation might want to look into this as a method to deter crime and make our streets safer for the people who live in them.
